OUR MEDICAL TEAM

The NICS – Neonatology team consists of neonatologists and specialty-trained neonatal nurse practitioners who are committed to providing round-the-clock quality patient care. NICS’s board-certified team of neonatologists offers a special approach to caring for infants with special needs during and after delivery. Neonatologists are pediatricians who have completed 3 extra years of training to specialize in the care of critically ill newborns. They are trained specifically to handle the most complex and high-risk situations. Parents can rest assured their baby is receiving excellent medical care from our highly-skilled and trained staff. NICS offers 24 hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week coverage for newborn deliveries.

Our experienced and dedicated staff has over 100 years of combined experience. Some babies stay in NICU for only a few hours for observation care while others may spend months receiving specialized care. Our hands-on care is backed by the latest in medical equipment and modern communication systems. Medical care and treatment plans are developed to address the individual needs of babies and their families using a family-centered, multidisciplinary approach.

Tung N. Giep, M.D., F.A.A.P., is the president and founder of NICS. He received his Medical Degree from, and completed his residency at, The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. His fellowship was completed at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Dr. Giep is board certified in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Joel Bonaparte, M.D., F.A.A.P., received his Medical Degree from, and completed his residency, at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in Bronx, New York. His fellowship was completed at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Bonaparte is board certified in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine.

Dr. Amarnath Chamkur received his medical degree from Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College in India. He completed his residency at Nassau University Medical Center is East Meadow, NY and his fellowship at Lutheran General Children’s Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. Dr. Chamkur is board certified in pediatrics and neonatology.

Dr. Gloria Moody, M.D., F.A.A.P., received her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She completed her residency at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and her fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Dr. Moody is board certified in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine.

Dr. Kwabena Sarpong, M.D., F.A.A.P., received his medical degree from School of Medical Sciences, University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. He completed his residency at Harlem Hospital Center in New York, New York. Dr. Sarpong is board certified in Pediatrics.

Our Nurse Practitioners

Irene R. Alegre, N.N.P., received her Masters Degree in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University in Houston, Texas. She also received her Post Masters specialization as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner from the University of Texas Health Science Center of Houston. She is certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Critical Care Nurse and credentialed through the National Certification Corporation. She is also a member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses.

Michelle Boudreaux, N.N.P., Received her Masters in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and her Bachelors in Nursing from LaSalle University, in Pennsylvania, graduating Cum Laude. She is board certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse/Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, credentialed through the National Certification Corporation, and a Regional NRP Instructor. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau and the FANNP.

Julia Clowers RNC, NNP-BC, received her Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch and her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from the University of the Texas at Arlington. She is certified as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and credentialed through the National Certification Corporation. She is also a member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses.

Mary Hall, N.N.P., received her Masters degree from Baylor University in Dallas, TX. and her Bachelors degree is from Northwestern State Univerisity. She is board certified as a neonatal nurse practitioner. She is a S.T.A.B.L.E. lead instructor, a member of the Texas Association of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and has practiced in neonatalogy for the past 25 years, the last 5 as an NNP.

Bridget Hite, N.N.P., received her Masters Degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She is certified in Advanced Practice Nurses/ Neonatal Nurse Practioner, NCC Certification for Neonatal Nurse Practioner, NRP Instructor and PALS Provider.

Monica Jaynes, RNC, NNP-BC, received her Masters in Nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and her Bachelors in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington, graduating Cum Laude. She is board certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse/Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and credentialed through the National Certification Corporation. She is a member of the nursing academic sorority Sigma Theta Tau, the National Association of Neonatal Nurses as well as the Academy of Neonatal Nurses.

Denise Laplaca, N.N.P., received her Master’s Degree in Nursing with a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist dual concentration from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She earned a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington in Arlington, Texas. She is board certified as an NNP through the National Certification Corporation and is a hospital-based Neonatal Resuscitation Program Instructor. She is a member of nursing’s academic honor society Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society Beta Gamma Sigma, which honors academic achievement in business studies, the National Association of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Eleanor M. Loosbrock, N.N.P., received her certificate in Nursing from the Department of Pediatrics at Oklahoma University College of Medicine in Oklahoma City. She is certified as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and credentialed through the National Certification Corporation. She is also a member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses.

Rebecca T. Slagle, N.N.P., received her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from the Medical School of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. She received her Masters in Neonatal/Perinatal Nursing from the Emory School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia. She is certified as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and credentialed through the National Certification Corporation. She is also a member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses.

Cheryl E. Young, N.N.P. received her Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of South Alabama and her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from the University of the State of New York. She is certified as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and credentialed through the National Certification Corporation. She is also a member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses.
