Pediatric Hospitalists Physicians

Hospitalists are physicians who specialize in exclusively caring for sick pediatric patients in a hospital setting, allowing family physicians and family practitioners more time to manage their practices, while giving patients the expert care they deserve. Below is our team of pediatric hospitalists currently serving NICS and partnering hospitals.

Felicia Baxter, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Baxter received her medical degree from the University of Florida, and has more than 10 years of experience as a pediatric hospitalist. She completed her residency and internship at the Children's Medical Center of Dallas (University of Texas Southwestern College of Medicine). Dr. Baxter is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is board certified in pediatrics.

Rachel B. Gandre, M.D.

Dr. Gandre oversees the Cy-Fair Medical Center Hospital newborn nursery, is a member of the 24/7 staff, and covers in-house admissions for pediatric patients. She received her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas as well as completing her residency there. Dr. Gandre has also worked at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, Lyndon Baines Johnson General Hospital, MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital and UT Physicians Kid’s Place. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Stella Uzumma Kalu, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Kalu oversees the Cy-Fair Medical Center Hospital newborn nursery, is a member of the 24/7 staff, and covers in-house admissions for pediatric patients. She received her medical degree from the University of Nigeria Medical School and completed her pediatric residency at the Marshfield Clinic at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Wisconsin, before becoming chief resident there. She is board certified in pediatrics.

Sangeetha Shankar, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Shankar received her degrees in medicine and surgery from Stanley Medical College in Chennai, India. Prior to joining Conroe Regional Hospital, Dr. Shankar completed her pediatric residency at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio and developed the pediatric hospitalist program at Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Florida, which now boasts a Level II pediatric intermediate care unit and a developing Level II NICU. She is board certified in pediatrics and holds dual medical licenses in Florida and Texas.

Mark Solomon, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Solomon received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and completed his fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at the University of Wisconsin Medical School. His extensive experience includes working as a pediatric hospitalist and pediatric pulmonologist at a variety of hospitals across Texas and Washington, most recently at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Washington. He also has served as an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M College of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Solomon is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is board certified in pediatrics.

Wansheng Wang, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Wang attended medical school at Jiangxi Medical College and a Master of Medical Science program at Shanghai Medical University. His experience includes serving as a pediatric physician at the Children's Hospital at Shanghai Medical University and in the Department of Pediatrics at Texas Tech University at El Paso. In addition to a board certification in pediatrics, Dr. Wang holds dual medical licenses in Texas and New Mexico and is fluent in both English and Chinese.
